Based on basic electrochemistry, environmental degradation of materials and evaluation methods for corrosion resistance will be described. This course is opened for the students who finished basic physical chemistry.

3. Corrosion - Basic aspects - Mixed potential theory, Corrosion current, Polarization curve
4. Types of corrosion
5. Anodic dissolution mechanisms of metals and alloys
6. Corrosion rate measurement based on electrochemical method
7. Evaluation methods for corrosion resistance and corrosion testing
8. Passivity and passive films for corrosion resistance
9. Nature, structure and growth mechanism of passive film
10. Historical review of stainless steels
11. Corrosion of stainless steels - Pitting and crevice corrosion -
12. Corrosion of stainless steels - Stress corrosion cracking -
