The Department of Metal Materials Science and Engineering (DMMSE) involves the study of the general science and engineering courses, materials, the fundamental courses of metal materials and the experimental courses.(Refer:DMMSE courses table). The major courses will be increased with the grade. Emphasized on the fundamental courses of materials science and engineering, the courses in DMMSE expand from the metal material field to the whole engineering industry field.
Metal Physics, Metal Chemistry and the Science of Metal Materials are the main three specific disciplines in DMMSE.
Metal Physics
To study the metals and alloys from the macroscopic structure and functions to the microscopic atomic and electronic theories.
Metal Chemistry
To study the reactions from the internal and external metal materials.
The Science of Metal Materials
To study the material structures, properties, formation, processing, strength, ductility, crack etc. involves metals, alloys, intermetallic compounds and ceramics.
Besides metal material, Metal Physics and Metal Chemistry are also the fundamental courses for research and fabrication of semiconductor, electrical material, mechanical material and environmental material. etc. The Science of Metal Materials is the most advanced field which sensitively reflects the changes of the material developing and society requirements.
In DMMSE, if student is excellent enough, jumping to the master course directly from junior grade is also possible.
